Hundred blocks

During our study of place value last week, we used the base ten blocks to quiz a partner.  One partner used the base ten blocks to create a number, the other partner had to write the number in standard, expanded, and word form.  It was hard work, but good practice.  The test over numeration is this Thursday, Setptember 4th.

Share, share, switch

If you have been to our classroom, you have seen our "Who Am I?" Projects. Students had to write clues about themselves, then draw a picture of themselves (aka #selfies).  To share with the class, I passed out the projects randomly, then put students in two circles, inner and outer where everyone had a partner in the opposite circle, they had to share three clues about the person they had in their hand.  Their partner, then, had to guess who the had.  After each partner had a turn, they switched projects and moved to a new partner.  It was a fun project and great way to get to know one another.  Stop by our classroom to see our "Who Am I's?" Posted!

Daily five

Every day we do daily five.  One of the parts of Daily Five is Read to a Partner.  All you do is read to a partner to see the fluency that they have.  Fluency is important because smoother you read the more books make sense.  When you read aloud to someone it helps improve your fluency.  You need to do EENN (elbow to elbow, Knee to knee).  Sitting this way helps you focus on your partner and encourages you to talk in a whisper voice.  Every one page then other person reads.  You are reading the same book as your partner.

Math

Today in math, we compared numbers and played a game to learn it. Here's how you play, one person writes on the whiteboard then the other person flips over four cards, the person who is writing on the white board puts the number down and compares them. It reminds us on how to compare numbers.
